The Joot Stool by NICCHRIS brings two familiar materials together: natural jute and solid wood. What makes the design interesting is how differently these materials behave. The woven jute introduces texture and a sense of softness, while the wooden frame gives the stool its shape and structure.
The seat is defined by its interlaced jute fibres, creating a visible pattern that becomes part of the design rather than something to conceal. Against the smoother surface of the solid wood frame, the weaving gives Joot its distinct character. There is a deliberate contrast between the irregular nature of the fibres and the more controlled lines of the timber.
Rather than relying on decorative details, Joot allows the materials to take the lead. The natural variations in the wood grain and woven surface mean that each material contributes something different to the overall appearance.
Designed as an occasional seat, the Joot Stool works equally well beside a lounge chair, in a bedroom, or as an additional seat in a living area. Its straightforward form makes it easy to place, while the combination of natural jute and solid wood gives it an identity of its own.

Supported by dense solid wood legs and perimeter aprons hand-selected for grain continuity. Controlled dehumidification cycles neutralize internal moisture stresses, preventing frame twisting or checking in air-conditioned environments.
Parametric Joinery & Skeletal Anchorage
Interlocking leg-to-rail junctions are calculated via parametric joinery routines to optimize stress distribution. Heavy-duty internal structural braces distribute dynamic passenger forces evenly to permanently eliminate frame racking.
Artisanal Satin Protective Luster
Hand-sanded to ease all perimeter arrises and sealed with silky matte penetrating finishes that preserve the open grain character while shielding the timber against moisture and daily surface wear.
