The Character of Rattan, Shaped by Curved Wood
The Marie Chair by NICCHRIS draws attention to the relationship between its curved wooden frame and woven rattan backrest. Rather than following the straight lines of a conventional armchair, Marie uses rounded corners, gently curved armrests, and arched supports beneath the seat to create a design with a distinctly retro character.
One of its most interesting details is the way the wooden frame wraps around the rattan backrest. The open weave allows light to pass through, while the curved timber edges give the chair a recognisable outline. Below the upholstered seat, the arched wooden supports introduce another layer of detailing that becomes more noticeable when the chair is viewed from the side.
Marie is particularly suited to mid-century modern, contemporary, and eclectic interiors, especially homes that combine furniture from different design periods. The combination of rattan, wood, and upholstery makes it an interesting alternative to a fully upholstered lounge chair.

Cold-cured foam cores enveloped in breathable batting, tailored in fine fabric or leather. The solid wood frame receives an ultra-matte, low-sheen protective sealant rubbed in by hand to safeguard the timber while keeping pores open to the touch.
