MANDARIN Rack
An architectural solid wood display rack defined by an open rectilinear framework and asymmetrical shelving compartments.
Design & Presence
The Mandarin Rack introduces geometric rhythm and open display architecture into residential interiors. Proportioned to function either against a perimeter wall or freestanding as an open room divider, its staggered shelving compartments create dynamic visual balance without blocking natural daylight. The open-grid composition organizes books, ceramics, and personal objects while maintaining clean sightlines across adjacent living spaces.
The entire framework and all horizontal shelves are built from solid wood. Each timber member is individually selected and aligned to harmonize grain figure across vertical stiles and horizontal spans. Traditional mortise-and-tenon joints interlock each intersection, forming a rigid structural chassis that resists racking under substantial weight. Slotted expansion fittings are integrated into the wider shelves to allow natural seasonal timber movement without placing tension on the joints.
In daily life, the generous shelf depths accommodate oversized art volumes and sculptural objects with ease. The hand-eased edges feel smooth and tactile underhand, while the matte protective finish shields the wood against dust and daily contact while preserving its natural open-pore texture. Conceived, resolved, and custom-made by NICCHRIS in Malaysia, the Mandarin Rack brings structural honesty into everyday domestic life.

Cohesive Interior Curation
Mandarin is proportioned to accompany linear living rooms, private library spaces, and open room transitions. Consider pairing it with these complementary workshop pieces:
MJ Sofa
The low-profile horizontal silhouette and tailored upholstered arms of the MJ Sofa anchor the lounge zone, allowing the vertical stature of the Mandarin Rack to delineate space behind the sofa back without obstructing room sightlines.
Crate Console
The disciplined linear timber framing of the Crate Console mirrors the geometric cubby structure of the Mandarin Rack, unifying entryways and living rooms through shared solid wood craftsmanship and open architectural profiles.
