Design & Presence
The Nico Rattan Dining Chair is defined by an armless, compact stance and an open woven cane backrest. Proportioned at 470mm wide by 490mm deep with an 850mm backrest height, its slender silhouette slides neatly along dining tables, preserving clear pathways in open dining areas. The natural rattan webbing filters ambient light and room perspectives, maintaining open visual sightlines without introducing the heavy mass of fully upholstered chairs.
The structural frame is built entirely from solid wood. Each timber member is hand-selected to ensure continuous grain alignment through the rear upright stiles, seat apron, and tapered legs. Traditional mortise-and-tenon joints unite the frame into a rigid load-bearing chassis engineered to resist racking and joint looseness under repeated daily seating. Natural rattan cane is hand-tensioned into the inner wood rebate, allowing the cane weave to flex naturally without placing tension on the primary timber joinery.
In daily dining, the breathable rattan backrest offers flexible, responsive support, while the high-density cushioned seat sustains comfort across long family gatherings. The armless profile allows easy seating access in compact spaces, while the hand-eased solid wood arrises feel smooth underhand. Finished with a durable matte protective coat that resists handling marks and spills, the Nico chair is conceived and custom-made by NICCHRIS in Malaysia.
