Design & Presence
The Casey Chair is defined by an upright, disciplined timber silhouette and an armless, compact stance. Proportioned at 500mm wide by 530mm deep with an 810mm height, its slender profile slides cleanly beneath dining tables, maintaining open walkways in compact and open-plan interiors. The gentle curve of the crest rail frames the seated posture without visual clutter, establishing a quiet architectural cadence along dining table lengths.
The structural frame is built entirely from solid wood. Hand-selected timber members are grain-matched along the curved backrest rail, rear stiles, and tapered legs to handle continuous load bearing. Traditional mortise-and-tenon joints lock the legs securely into the perimeter seat apron, providing a rigid chassis that prevents joint racking. Slotted expansion fittings fasten the seat base, allowing the solid timber to move naturally through regional humidity changes without joint fatigue.
In daily dining, the resilient high-density cushioned seat and supportive backrest ensure lasting comfort through extended meals and evening conversation. The hand-eased solid wood arrises feel smooth underhand, while a durable matte protective finish shields the wood against liquid spills and handling marks. Conceived, resolved, and custom-made by NICCHRIS in Malaysia, the Casey chair brings honest woodworking craft into the contemporary dining room.
