Design & Presence
The Vase Side Table is defined by its compact circular tabletop and an organic, vessel-inspired pedestal base. Designed to sit beside low armchairs or at the return of a sofa, its tapered vertical silhouette introduces soft sculpted contours to rooms dominated by straight lines. The rounded outline eliminates sharp arrises from high-traffic walkways, maintaining an open, unobstructed pathway while grounding the corner with centered visual mass.
Both the circular top and the sculpted base are built entirely from solid wood. Each timber plank is hand-selected and grain-matched across the circular surface to achieve balanced tone and natural figure. Beneath, traditional mortise-and-tenon joints connect the pedestal column to weighted base plates, forming a rigid timber core. Concealed expansion fittings secure the top, allowing the solid timber to move naturally through seasonal humidity shifts without cracking or joint fatigue.
In daily living, the table provides a steady, accessible resting plane for an espresso cup, evening reading, or personal objects at natural arm height. Hand-eased perimeter arrises feel smooth underhand, while the matte protective finish guards against liquid marks while preserving the tactile, open texture of raw timber. Conceived, resolved, and custom-made by NICCHRIS in Malaysia, the Vase table brings honest woodworking craft into daily domestic routines.
