Design & Presence
The Zen Dining Table brings architectural calm and balanced geometry into open dining spaces. Proportioned at 2100mm long by 1000mm wide with a standard 750mm height, its generous rectangular stance comfortably seats eight diners while preserving open circulation paths. Thoughtfully inset solid wood legs maximize knee room and allow dining armchairs to slide cleanly beneath the perimeter.
The chassis is constructed entirely from structural solid wood. Wide timber boards are hand-selected and grain-matched across the tabletop length to present continuous cathedral grain movement. Slotted internal expansion battens beneath the surface accommodate transverse wood movement across seasonal humidity changes. Traditional mortise-and-tenon joints interlock the legs directly into the perimeter load-bearing apron, creating a rigid foundation that resists racking.
In daily living, hand-eased perimeter arrises provide comfortable forearm support during extended meals and quiet morning routines. A durable matte protective coating seals the wood grain against liquid spills, hot serveware, and handling marks while keeping the tactile warmth of the natural grain intact. Conceived, resolved, and custom-made by NICCHRIS in Malaysia, the Zen table introduces honest woodworking craft to the contemporary dining space.
