Design & Presence
The Belly Rattan Dining Chair is defined by its rounded barrel silhouette and open cane perimeter. Proportioned to cradle the seated posture, the continuous curved backrest sweeps around the torso while maintaining an airy profile along the table edge. The woven rattan panel filters light and room perspectives, preserving open sightlines across dining areas and preventing visual weight from accumulating around the table perimeter.
The surrounding structural frame is built entirely from solid wood. Each timber member is aligned for continuous grain flow across the curved crest rail, under-seat apron, and tapered legs. Traditional mortise-and-tenon joints interlock the chassis into a rigid, load-bearing framework that resists lateral racking under daily dining use. The natural rattan webbing is hand-tensioned directly into the inner wood rebate, allowing the cane to flex under body weight without exerting torsional strain on the surrounding timber joints.
In everyday living, the flexible woven cane back offers breathable support, paired with a high-density cushioned seat that maintains comfort through long evening meals. Hand-eased perimeter arrises feel smooth underhand when pulling the chair forward, while the durable matte finish protects the timber against spills and handling marks.
