The Bubbly Stool by NICCHRIS takes a familiar upholstered stool and gives it an unexpected sense of volume. Its surface is made up of generously rounded, cushion-like sections, drawn together by deep button tufting to create a distinctive pattern that extends across the seat and down its sides.
Unlike conventional tufted furniture, where the detailing often sits within a flat or gently padded surface, Bubbly exaggerates the depth between each button. The result is a series of soft, raised forms that resemble clusters of small cushions pressed together. The upholstery becomes more than a covering; it defines the entire character of the stool.
Despite its playful appearance, there is a clear sense of order in the design. The repeated tufting creates a consistent rhythm across the rounded top and curved corners, giving the stool a recognisable silhouette from every angle. In the warm orange upholstery shown, the shadows between each raised section make the pattern particularly noticeable.
