Design & Presence
The Haruto Dining Chair is shaped with a compact, low-slung stance and a continuous curved backrest that flows into low armrests. Designed to slide neatly beneath dining tabletops, its 750mm backrest height maintains open sightlines across dining areas and adjoining living spaces. The balanced proportions combine grounded structural stability with generous seating clearance, avoiding visual clutter when arranged in multiples along a dining table.
The entire chair is built from 100% solid wood. Each component is hand-selected to preserve continuous grain direction along the curved crest rail, leg uprights, and carved seat. Traditional mortise-and-tenon joints lock the structural leg posts directly into the under-seat timber apron, establishing a rigid joinery framework engineered to withstand daily lateral forces. Slotted expansion fittings beneath the solid timber seat allow the natural wood to expand and contract across seasonal humidity shifts without developing tension cracks.
In daily dining, the sculpted solid wood saddle seat provides comfortable, ergonomic support for family meals and extended conversation. The hand-eased perimeter arrises feel smooth underhand, while the matte protective finish shields against liquid marks while preserving the tactile, open-pore grain of the timber. Conceived, resolved, and custom-made by NICCHRIS in Malaysia, the Haruto chair brings honest woodworking integrity to everyday home life.
