Design & Presence
The Pinggan Coffee Table sits low to the floor, introducing a softened, organic perimeter into the living room. Inspired by the gentle contours of a shallow dish, the broad wooden tabletop departs from rigid rectangular lines without losing its structural composure. Its low 300mm stance keeps sightlines clear across open-plan interiors, grounding low sofas and armchairs with quiet presence.
Both the tabletop and the curved base are built from solid wood. To form the rounded profile of the base, solid wood segments are precision-joined together, creating an arched pedestal that supports the broad top with steady structural balance. Traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery and internal mechanical fasteners secure the framework, allowing the solid timber to move naturally with seasonal humidity changes while preventing joints from pulling apart over time.
In everyday living, the smooth, hand-eased edges feel pleasant to touch, eliminating sharp arrises around seating pathways. The matte protective finish shields the wood against liquid spills and everyday objects while keeping the natural grain texture open underhand. Conceived, resolved, and custom-made by NICCHRIS in Malaysia, the Pinggan table offers an enduring, human foundation for shared domestic life.
