Design & Presence
The Spaceship Dining Table introduces sculptural movement to open dining interiors with an aerodynamic solid wood framework. Proportioned at 2100mm long by 1000mm wide with a standard 750mm height, its softened, elongated profile comfortably accommodates eight diners. Sculptural raked timber legs taper downward to minimize visual mass, creating generous under-table knee clearance that allows dining chairs to slide cleanly beneath the perimeter.
The chassis is constructed entirely from structural solid wood. Hand-selected timber planks are grain-matched along the tabletop surface to preserve continuous cathedral grain movement from end to end. Beneath the surface, slotted internal expansion battens accommodate transverse seasonal wood movement across changing regional humidity levels. Heavy-duty mortise-and-tenon joinery unites the angled timber legs directly into the perimeter load-bearing apron, producing an unyielding, tip-resistant foundation built to withstand daily family dining.
In daily living, hand-eased pillowed arrises provide smooth forearm comfort during extended gatherings and morning routines. A durable matte protective coating seals the timber against moisture absorption, food spills, and handling scuffs while preserving the tactile warmth of the natural grain. Conceived, resolved, and custom-made by NICCHRIS in Malaysia, the Spaceship table brings expressive woodworking craft into the contemporary dining room.
